Teremos o prazer de receber o Prof. Geza Kolumbán para a palestra "New approach for design and implementation of future communications systems".

Resumo: Software defined radio, universal software radio peripheral and virtual instrumentation all mean that the signal processing is performed exclusively in software run in baseband, and a universal hardware device is used to perform the transformation between the physical RF band-pass signals and their baseband equivalents referred to as complex envelopes. Since applications are implemented in software, the same hardware can be used to implement every application. Baseband algorithm derived can be run on a computer or an FPGA. The lecture shows how baseband equivalents of different systems ranging from telecommunications to measurements can be derived and run on different platforms.

Bio: Geza Kolumban, FIEEE, http://users.itk.ppke.hu/~kolumban/, received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Technical University of Budapest in 1976 and 1990, respectively, and his C.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1990 and 2004, respectively, and his Dr.habil degree from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2005. He is an IEEE Fellow (2005) with the citation: “for contributions to double sampled phase-locked loops and non-coherent chaotic communications.” After his graduation he worked in the professional telecommunications industry for 15 years developing terrestrial and satellite communications systems. Since 1991 he has been with academia, at present, he is a full professor at the Faculty of Information Technology of Pazmany Peter Catholic University and is the Director of Laboratory of Software Defined Electronics and Virtual Instrumentation. He has been a visiting professor and researcher to UC Berkeley, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University College Dublin, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, TU Dresden, etc. Two of his papers have been ranked in top-cited IEEE Trans. CAS-I articles. According to http://scholar.google.com, his publications have been cited 2031 times, his h-index=19 and i-index=32.
